What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect information about you during the checkout process if you order an obituary or e-book. We’ll ask you to provide information including your name, email address, phone number and credit card/payment details. We’ll use this information to:

  • Send you information about your order and contact you for follow-up discussion if you have ordered an obituary
  • Respond to your requests, including questions or complaints
  • Process payments and prevent fraud
  • Keep internal records on orders we have completed

If you make a purchase, we will store your information. We generally keep records of all orders through the site indefinitely for our internal record-keeping. This includes your name, email address and billing and shipping addresses.

Who on our team has access to your data

Members of our team have access to the information you provide us. For example, both site administrators can access:

  • Order information like what was purchased and when it was purchased, and
  • Customer information like your name, email address, and phone number.

Our team members have access to this information to help fulfill orders.

What we share with others

We share information with third parties who help us provide our services to you; for example:

  • PAYMENTS: We use a third party service called Stripe to process credit card payments for us. We do not store any of your credit card information, but your name and payment information is passed along to Stripe so they can process payment. If you have questions about that data, you may access Stripe’s privacy policy.
  • TRANSACTIONAL EMAIL: Transactional email, such as automatic order confirmation emails, is handled by a service called Mailgun. You may visit Mailgun’s privacy policy.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

What rights you have over your data

If you have made orders on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Write to: [email protected]

Obituaries published on this site

At the time we complete an obituary for your loved one we may ask your permission to publish the final obit here on dearpersonobits.com after it has appeared in the newspapers or publications to which you plan to submit it. We may publish the final obit in full or simply link to it. For whatever reason, should you ever change your mind and no longer want it visible here, simply contact us and we will take it down.
